Lindsey Cornett, daughter of Gene and Kim Cornett was saved 8-22-07. This family has been at the hospital by Mark's side almost daily. They are our second family and my dad was out visiting them and fishing cropie and through these visits and bible studies, Lindsey accepted Christ!

Hebrews 5:9

And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey them.

Also, before Mark went into surgery in Texas, he wrote serveral things in a book of ours and one of the things he wrote was that he wanted to Pray with his dad and make sure he was saved. God is a big part of Mark's life and he felt bad that he never really talked to his dad about it much. Mark's dad is now attending church in Collinsville. Mark would be so happy to see this happening. God is good! Love Coral

Prayer Changes Things

1 Corinthians :7-11
And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing that ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of messure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even life.
But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but God which raiseth the dead.
Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver:in whom we trust on whom we have set out hope, that he will yet deliver us.
Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf. Amen.

Go Big Orange!

Hello to all....sorry it has taken me a while to Blog, but since our return home, things have been quite hectic. I have to Thank Jerry, for keeping you informed, he has done a great job. He has told you the latest in the previous blog, so I will just say he is continuing to get better by the day. I was very surprised when I found out the removed the trachea. This is a big step in his recovery process. We are still waiting for his bed sore to heal...it is about 1/2 there. The wound vac has been great for speeding up the healing process. They are sitting him up daily now for about 2o min. as long as it does not effect the bed sore. He has had many visitors and this is very good for his recovery, he loves to see his friends. His nutrution levels were 17 and then started going down to 12, 7, 3 and then they started him on more protien and vitamins and this brought it back up to 21, which was better that in the beginning. The healing of the bed sore takes a lot of protien from the body and this was the reason for the drop in numbers the doctor said. The doctors last visit there was nothing negative, only positive progress now. Thank you all for the continued prayers, we know this is the reason for his healing, that he is completley in the Lord's hands. I can't wait bring him home, I miss him deeply. It will be a while still however. The picture is of Mark and my dad, The Cornett family brought him the OSU penent and glove you see on his hand. Mark put it on by himself and looked it over good and gave a wave to my dad, in hopes it would takeover the Longhorn Spirit my dad teases Mark about daily! You should have seen him, it was hilarious. Love you all....Coral and kids.

Late Wednesday Night

Mark has made some good progress this week, good enough that we can't wait until the usual end of the week report. Stan was there early yesterday, and when he arrived, they had Mark sitting up on the side of the bed. Nurse said last night that he sat up for about 20 minutes. When Stan walked in, the nurse asked him "do you know who this is? Is this your wife's brother? " And Mark said "No, sister's husband". They used the attached voice box some yesterday, and yesterday evening, they removed it and capped it off, and the male nurse said "now he can just talk normally if he wants to". Kim just called and said she was just leaving for the night, heading home, and that they had removed his trache this afternoon. First time he's been free of that in nearly three months. He'll need some practice, and is trying to talk normally, but the opening is not yet completely closed. Corale and daughter Erica were there tonight. As was sister Kim and old friend Marlo. So the end of the day has more good news for all of us. As his Mom used to say, "Way to go Markie".

Mr Cardinal

Mark has lived in Collinsville all his life, attending school here from elementary through H.S. Always active in sports, he finally was fortunate to get the title Mr Cardinal, through hard work and perseverance. Those same attributes are being called on now - to be tough, keep trying. Mark is trying very hard, and wanting to speak, and more often trying to sit up. He holds out his arms, reaching for an assist. Corale said that today they will work with him by using a voice box so we can communicate with him. Mark was alert last night, and enjoyed a back massage. He is alert to his surroundings and will respond to questions. A nurse told me she asked him what year it was - 200 - ? and he replied "7". He forms silent words, and frowns when you don't understand him. It is difficult on both sides, especially for him. He is being provided for medically, but Mother Nature works at her own speed. It is a slow but steady improvement. For Randy, David - thanks for stopping by. Gene and Kim - you're always there - and more than welcome.

Aug 13 2007

Mark has very good vitals this week. Last week, pulse was a little high, but the last couple of days, it's about perfect. They have installed a different type of oxygen device. Instead of the direct connection, there is now in place something that makes oxygen available, but not straight in. Monitor last night registered 100% and that is great. His "new" room is very small - a semi private. Two patients with a curtain between - more like a closet. Visitors last night were wife Corale, children Chris, Joseph and Erica; f.i.l. John; Gene and wife Kim, and of course old Dad. Persistent bed sore is healing nicely. Speech therapist is working with Mark daily, saying simple words, commands. Very difficult with trache in place. Corale said "throw me a kiss" and he responded. He also has waved "good-bye". These may not seem like great events, but from two months ago, it is really great. We got a great picture of Mark smiling, while dau Erica was talking to him. Mark is now in Rm 472 - right next to nurse's station. And there are several OSU Cowboy decorations. Not really home away from home, but we're getting there. Mark's son Joseph will be 14 this Thur, the 16th. Thanks for the continuing support of fellow co-workers from AA.

Still making progress

Mark arrived at St John Hospital July 2nd. At that time he would occasionally open his eyes, very little movement. This past week, he is more alert than ever - on Sat night, he was awake all the time we were there. His vitals continue to be good, and reports are that his very difficult bed sore is healing nicely, responding to very aggressive treatment. This past week, he has started to try to speak. He still has his trache in place, which prohibits him from vocalizing. They are now starting to plan the steps that will enable them to remove it. They can keep it in place, but cap it off to make sure breathing is good. If that works, they can then remove it. They will also test him to make sure his swallowing mechanism is functioning properly. He has not done that for months, while using the feeding tube. Just being able to communicate will make things so much better for everyone. Mark's three children have been there often this week, and are ready to start school. Corale has been very busy trying to get everything ready for school starting this week. While checking his vitals Saturday evening, one of the nurses said "Mark, you need to get well, and start eating real food, so we can have a party". He responded with a big smile. July has come and gone, and we're into old hot August. We're optimistic that Mark will make as much progress this month as last month. Thanks to so many people for their continuing love and support.
